Last week

It is hard to believe that 8 weeks have gone by so quickly. I came into the class with doubts that my writing would improve. I have always done well organizing my thoughts except when it came to grammar. It has been over 10 years since I have had an in depth explanation of the rules of grammar. Not many teachers take the time to explain what a student is doing wrong and help them fix it. This class has not only taught me how to become a better writer, it has taught me how to become a better teacher. Professor Aggen has showed me what it means to truly care about students in the classroom and be a support system. As future teachers we are all going to have many different roles in the classroom. Students come to class each time with different personal issues that arise. It not only affects them mentally, but educationally as well. Educators need to make sure that students are able to feel safe in the classroom and confide in them.
This class was one of the most challenging classes that I have taken at Trinity. It challenged me to perfect my writing. It made me aware of mistakes that I make in my writing and do my best to avoid them. I realized that the English grammar is extremely intricate and difficult to memorize for me. My biggest challenge is using commas and it is something that I still struggle with, but I do recognize my mistake more. In addition, I tend to switch tenses when I am writing my papers. Through all the mistakes I have made I can honestly say that I have grown in my writing skills. These lessons are something that I can take with me and use in my teaching career. I am so grateful to have met so many different and wonderful people in my class and I wish everyone the absolute best in their futures.

  1. Jackie,

I know you will do well in your future as a teacher. You are passionate about what you want to do, and you do your best to grow and learn all the time. I look forward to hearing from you a year or two from now to hear about your classroom experiences with your own students!

  2. Jackie, it is amazing how fast the weeks went by. I really enjoyed this class too! I feel as though the few weeks we practiced writing and grammar were worth an entire year of curriculum. This is a testament to personal growth and a professor who challenged us to do our best. Will I have issues with writing in the future? Maybe I will, but at least I know what to look for now. Commas will probably always be the bad guy, but with practice and a good sense of reading for comprehension, I think we will all be just fine. Best wishes to you in your future endeavors as a teacher.
